Why photos can affect your layout

Each person in a TreeLine is represented by a bar — a horizontal element that spans their lifetime. When a photo is added, TreeLine expands the bar vertically to show it. This extra height flows through to the row it occupies, making that row taller.

Because all people in the same row share the same row height, adding a photo to one person can subtly change the proportions of an entire row. In a large chart, this can noticeably affect the overall height of the output.

For charts intended for print, it is worth considering photo placement before finalising your layout. A consistent approach — photos for direct ancestors only, for example — tends to produce the most balanced result.
